The translation part of the CET is always the most funny part due to I watch videos on Bilibili, many translations are too Chinglish. But, talk in normal, the CET translation part will mention some Chinese culture and geographic names, and today, in this passage, I'm gonna show you the geographic names of China. First of all, the provincial level administrative region.

China has totally 23 provinces, 4 municipality directly under the Central Government, 5 autonomous region and 2 special administrative region. Well, most of them are translated as pinyin without any tones. Like 北京 is translated as Beijing. Remember, the first character is CAPITALIZED and the other characters are written in lower case. Well, due to Chinese language has 4 four tones, we'll have to put 山西 and 陜西 together, without tones, they're all Shanxi. So as the government rule, 陜西 is translated as Shaanxi, there are 2 a's in it. Well, 西藏 and 內(nèi)蒙古, we can translate it as pinyin without tone, and we can also translate it as Tibet and Inner Mongolia. So in my memory, I've met 3 times of Qinghai and Tibet, the pleatu, the railway. I see the translation of 青藏鐵路 on CGTN, China Global Television Network, is Qinghai-Xizang Railway, and I translated it as Qinghai-Tibet Railway on the test. I don't know which one is correct but I think it's all OK. So do a little quiz of translation: 青藏高原. Last but not least, 香港 and 澳門 should be translated as Hong Kong and Macao due to the historical problem.

And then we talk about provincial capital. Just like above, I will say some special names just listed follow:

Harbin? ? 哈爾濱

Hohhot? ? 呼和浩特

Lhasa? ? ?拉薩

Urumqi? ? 烏魯木齊

Taipei? ? 臺(tái)北

Well, how to translate 西安 into English? Is Xian? No, it's Xi'an. The ' in here is a syllable-dividing mark（隔音符號(hào)）. If we don't add a ' between Xi and An, it may be read as 先. So, remember add it. Well , a little quiz of this: 天安門廣場(chǎng), please translate.
