The diagram illustrates the process of making chocolate.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the
main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.

The graph shows how to make liquid chocolate by using cocoa beans. Overall, the production of chocolate involves 10 stages, beginning with the growing of cacao trees and ending with the production of liquid chocolate.
First, the cacao trees where the cocoa beans come?form?are mainly grown in Southern?America, Africa and Indonesia. When the pods in the cacao trees become ripe and red, they are harvested to get the white cocoa beans which are inside the pods. After being fermented, the beans are dried under in the sunshine.

Next,?it comes to transportation. The?beans are packed in large sacks and delivered to the factory by train or lorry. In the factory, the beans are roasted at 350 degrees. After being roasted, the beans are crushed, and the outer shells of the beans are removed. In the final stage, the liquid chocolate is produced by pressing the inner part, which is left extracted in the previous stage.
Feedback
Task Achievement
The writer dealt with the requirements of the task although more details could be provided for some of the stages (see comment box). To get a Band 8, there would need to be more supporting details.
Coherence and Cohesion
The writer arranges information and ideas coherently and there is a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used effectively, but referencing may be faulty, for example (Next,?it comes to transportation. The?the beans are packed in large sacks and delivered to the factory by train or lorry). For the candidate to attain a Band 7 in this criterion, there would need to be more accurate referencing.

Vocabulary
The writing uses a sufficientrange of vocabulary to communicate the issues with some flexibility and precision. Less common items are demonstrated with some use of collocation and style (Overall, the production of chocolate involves 10 stages, beginning with the growing of cacao trees and ending with the production of liquid chocolate). There are occasional errors in spelling and/ or word formation (First, the cacao trees where the cocoa beans come?form?are mainly grown in Southern?America, Africa and Indonesia). In order to achieve a Band 8, there would need to be more range and accuracy of the vocabulary displayed.

Grammar
A variety of complex structures are used, and error free sentences are produced. The candidate shows effective control of punctuation and grammar with a few errors (After being roasted, the beans are crushed, and the outer shells?of?the?beans are removed). Fewer errors and a wider range of structures is needed if the candidates wished to attain a Band 8 in this criterion.

Sample Answer
The diagram shows the stages in the process of making chocolate. Overall, the extracted beans are fermented and dried naturally whereas mechanical methods roast and remove the shells to produce raw chocolate. Chocolate comes from the cacao tree, which is cultivated in parts of South America, Africa and Indonesia. The tree produces large red pods that contain white cocoa beans. Firstly, when the pods are ripe, they are harvested. The beans are then removed and fermented for several days in large wooden boxes. During the fermenting process the beans turn brown. Next, the beans are put out in the sun to dry. Following this, they are deposited in large sacks and are ready for shipping by train or lorry to be taken to a factory. Upon arrival, they are roasted in an oven at temperatures between 250 and 350 degrees Celsius. After having been baked, the beans are crushed and the outer shell is taken off. Finally, the inner part of the bean is pressed and liquid chocolate is produced.
