The 2015 McLaren 650S GT3 race car was limited to just 15 units and replaced the McLaren 12C GT3 in the Blancpain Endurance Series. Technically it was an updated 12C GT3. This also opened up opportunities for private owners of the 12C GT3 owners to upgrade their car to the 650S GT3. They had put up 15 such packages. So that made a total of 30 GT3 cars based on the 650S. At launch, the McLaren 650S GT3 sold at around $564,000 which was double that of a road-going 650S.

Surprisingly, the 2015 McLaren 650S GT3 was powered by the same 3.8L Twin-Turbo V8 motor from the road-going 650S. This in turn was the same layout as the McLaren 12C and thus pumped out 493 hp. They couldn't bump up the juice on this block as FIA's Balance of Performance (BOP) regulations restricted it.
But McLaren changed the transmission to a new 6-Speed sequential unit with slicker shifts. Engine cooling was also another major improvement over the 12C GT3 race car. The larger front intakes and relocated gearbox oil cooler helps in bumping up its performance profile.

Almost all of the components inside-out of the 2015 McLaren 650S GT3 race car was carbon-fiber. Even the tub was carbon fiber, which translated to this car weighing in at just 3089 lbs. This gave it an impressive power to weight ratio that helped it on tracks. Even the rearview mirrors were optimized for aerodynamics and carved out of carbon-fiber. The major improvements over the already mind-blowing 12C GT3 were in the more aggressive front and rear splitters, and the rear fixed-wing.

Interior was serious with race-focused and strictly catered elements. The cabin was enclosed in a revised carbon fiber MonoCell chassis along with an FIA-approved roll cage that was lighter than that of the 12C GT3's. Comfort was surprisingly good in the 650S GT3 as there were more headroom and legroom.
The race seats were more comfortable and strapped with a 6-point race harness as standard. It had a digital dashboard that showcased all the vitals and kept the driver informed. A neat part was its steering wheel, the design of which was derived from McLaren's Formula 1 car. Safety was prioritized and McLaren didn't forget to wrap the dashboard in carbon fiber as well!
