注意 cheap 表示“便宜的”有兩個不同的用法：

▲一是表示 low in price; costing little money（廉價的；花錢少的；便宜的），此時表示用于交易的事物價格低，花錢少，即漢語的“便宜”——此用法與漢語用法相同，不會引起誤解。例句如：

Clothes like that don’t come cheap. 那樣的衣服不會便宜。

Buying cheap shoes is a false economy. 買便宜鞋以求省錢只會適得其反。

Customers will choose whichever product is cheaper. 哪種產品便宜顧客就會選哪種。

Nylon is cheaper than leather, and it's just as strong. 尼龍要比皮革便宜些，同時一樣結實。

▲二是表示charging low prices（要價低的），此時表示與交易相關的主體收費不高，根據charging low prices這一英文解釋（尤其是其中的動詞charge）可知，它指某人或某機構等“要價低”——這一用法與漢語用法有些出入，容易產生誤解。例句如：

a cheap hairdresser, restaurant 要價低的理發(fā)師、飯館（《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》(第四版）

We’re staying at a cheap hotel near the station. 我們住在火車站附近一家便宜的旅館里。（《牛津英語搭配詞典》）

This is supposed to be a cheap restaurant. It says so in this guidebook. 一I daresay it does, but look at these prices! 這該是一家廉價餐館，這本旅游指南上是這樣說的——我想是的，不過看看這價目!（《朗文英語語法》）
